Echoes Beneath the Horizon
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Echoes Beneath the Horizon is an abstract, atmospheric composition that explores memory, movement, and time. Soft layers of muted blues and greys dissolve into bands of pink and warm ochre, suggesting a shifting landscape suspended between sea and sky.
Scratched markings, symbols, and faint handwritten fragments emerge and recede beneath the surface, evoking hidden narratives and forgotten messages. The contrast between cool and warm tones creates both tension and calm, inviting the viewer into a contemplative, emotionally resonant space.
Inspiration:
This painting was inspired by horizons as emotional and symbolic thresholds - places where past and future seem to meet. I was drawn to the idea of echoes: memories, words, and feelings that linger beneath the surface long after their original moment has passed. The interplay of warm and cool tones reflects inner conflict and harmony, while the embedded markings suggest personal and collective histories partially obscured by time.
Artist Statement :
My work explores layering, mark-making, and texture as carriers of memory and emotional depth. Working in acrylic, I build surfaces through translucent washes, scraping, and intuitive gestures, allowing traces of earlier layers to remain visible. In Echoes Beneath the Horizon, I wanted the surface to feel like a palimpsest - holding fragments of language, feeling, and time. Each layer becomes a quiet record of presence, erosion, and becoming.
